The department of English has been in action since the establishment year of the college. It has been taking efforts in the linguistic development of students of all the streams. English is introduced at compulsory and general level in the college. Our college is with the vision to instill quality and improve the personality of the students. So, the department is taking initiatives in doing the same.
A variety of programmes and special activities have been implemented by the department in association with Soft Skills Development Cell and other faculty members regarding technical support. There is an intensive and smart use of ICT in learning of English as a subject and a language. Business Communication Laboratory (BCA118), a practical paper is taught with ICT, M Learning, and the MALL.
As a result of inspiration and motivation from the department, Book donation programme is held in the college with the cooperation and concept of retired Prof. C K Deshmukh with his affiliated charity trust. Through this programme, 50 students received a copy of Spoken English book along with 05 copies to the library. The library also received three more titles (books). The department has celebrated Marathi Theatre Day on 05 November 2023. Students of Arts were present for the screening of rare videos regarding the day. To meet the requirements of the syllabi, the department has adopted to the overall evaluation model for the internal assessment with reference to the basic and advanced skills in English language.
Mr Shivnath Ashok Takte, has been serving in the department since 02 October 2020. He is doing PhD in Politeness Studies from SPPU. He is a bilingual poet, and his poems are published in reputable journals and in newspapers. He has received several considerations and accolades for his contribution. He has been appointed on the Examination panel of Sangamner College, Sangamner (Autonomous). He has worked as a senior supervisor (External) in Kolhar College. He has evaluated for the CAP held in PVP College, Loni, SSGM College, Kopargaon and New Arts College, Ahmednagar. He has been working as a speaker / Granth Anveshak for the Board of Extra Mural Studies, SPPU PUNE. Also, he has been appointed as coordinator of the Soft Skills Development Cell in the college. He has worked as a resource person for a workshop on creative writing held in Sau. Sushilamai Kale College, Gautamnagar.
In addition, he had been appointed as a jury member for the State level Debate Competition held in PRESS’s Padmashree Vikhe Patil College, Pravaranagar. He has also worked as a judge for the cultural competition in the Shri Ganesh Festival 2023 in Loni. He is a speaker, motivator, and Soft Skill Trainer. He has given lectures in NSS Special Camps held in Hiwargaon Pathar and Pimpri Lauki Azampur and Nighoj. Similarly, he has translated the Marathi book ‘भंडारदरा धरणाचा इतिहास' into English as 'The Century of the Arthur Lake- Wilson Dam' and the same has been published by Bhagyoday Publishing House, Jaysingpur. The book received district level best book award with a cash prize of ₹ 10,000/- in Padmashree Dr Vikhe Patil Literature Awards 2023. Recently, he has been appointed as the secretary in the office bearers of the Ahmednagar Chapter of the English Language Teachers’ Association of India (ElT@I).
